Knights Face North Forsyth and Hopewell in Fall Scrimmages

The Hopewell Hawks hosted the Marietta Knights and North Forsyth Bandits at Bell Memorial Park in Milton on Sunday for a round robin of scrimmages. It was a great opportunity for the boys to trade in their football helmets and lacrosse sticks for baseball gear and face live pitching and hitting for the first time this Fall.

Isaac Zefo earned the season's first tough man award after a very scary moment in the top of the 1st inning of game 1 against the Bandits. Isaac was dealing strikes when the Bandit's number three batter hit a hard line drive right into Isaac's chest. Once he was able to get up, the coaches tried to get Isaac to leave the mound for the day but he refused and insisted on finishing the inning. Isaac ended up with a very solid 57% strikes.

The Knights day offensively was highlighted by alot of hard hit balls and great baserunning. Mason Doyle was 3 for 4 on the day with 2 runs scored and 4 stolen bases. Isaac had 2 RBI's and Cal Hughes added an RBI double. Isaac, Cal and Will Nelson each stole 2 bases. The Knights stole 13 bases in all.

The Knights showed defensive promise as well. Patrick Reddick filled in today despite not having practiced since last Spring and was promptly forced into service at 1B when Presley injured his thumb. Patrick responded with 4 great stretches and scoops for putouts at first. The Defensive Performance of game 1 was a beautiful double play by Cal. A Bandit runner was going from 1B on the pitch when the batter launched a high flyball to deep short. Cal hauled it in and fired to Patrick at first to double off the base runner. The Defensive Performance of game 2 was Will Nelson's 2 innings of very solid relief work on the mound. Will struck out 3 batters on his way to a 60% strike ratio.

Overall, the Knights looked alot like a team that has had very little practice this fall, which they are. But there were flashes of great baseball on the diamond today and many reasons for Knights' fans to be optimistic about the Spring season.
